Carp Fishing Boilies
I first came across the boilie back in 1981; I was fishing at Packington, Somers, and Geary’s level near Coventry.
This guy came up to me and started talking about bait he mentioned the boilie, these boilies had so many advantages that you could see, like fishing long range, deterrent for smaller fish and a perfect shape for your rig to work effectively. With a stroke of luck this guy had a pocket full of them. Me being a cocky little blighter I said give us a couple he gave me about 10, these 10 baits must have caught me over 20 carp over a 4 day session the fish were mad for it.
I got back home and made a few phone calls, this guy was one them and he said you have to go to a bloke called Bob Frost in Coventry,
Next evening I went over with my old man. I met up with this carp bait saviour, I didn’t realise you had to make these boilies yourself.
Bob wrote down exactly what I should do from mixing flavour, eggs and sweetener together to rolling and boiling the paste.
Boilie making can be a pain as I discovered. I dyed my moms work surface red, yellow and orange, the whole house stunk and burnt my mom’s food mixer out, oops, but I still persisted, because it kept me out of trouble.
My fishing vastly improved and on one water I was catching all my fish on cheese, like all baits this bait was wearing a bit thin with the carp in this pool, So I went out and got hold of some cheese powder I added this to the dry boilie mix and just at that time Richworth came out with blue cheese flavour.
I went back to the same pool where cheese had had its day and the fish went mental when used with hair rig it was a different world fishing.
I’ve used the boilie from then to this day now and it is the most versatile carp bait ever produced.
