Carp Fishing Gear

Carp fishing gear is more technical than any other fishing gear e.g. Match, Fly, Pike, Sea and Coarse gear. With its electronic bite alarms, many with remote control, remote control bait boats and fish finders.
Before you kit yourself out with carp gear you need to have a good idea of where you are going to fish, its no good buying 13ft 3.5tc Fast Taper Carp rod with Big Pit reels for a 4 acre lake, you would need something around a 1 ½ to 2lb Test Curve with a Compound Taper.
In the paragraph before I mentioned compound and fast taper carp rods; the compound is a rod that is very good for margin fishing, it will absorb all the power of the carp without putting to much strain on the end, the fast taper rod is the opposite; it is much stiffer than the compound model, it is used for casting long range and good line pick up when striking a carp at 100yds plus.

It is the same with the reels but not as important, but we all like to use well balanced gear, it is pointless having a big pit reel spooled up to the rim for close in work, most of my fishing is under a hundred yards so my big pits are spooled up with 18lb breaking strain Krystonite to 5mm under the spool rim.

I am thinking of changing back to Shimano bait runners because they are small compact and ideal for all aspects of stalking.
I’ve spoken about rods and reels firstly because they are the main pieces of carp gear you need next to your end tackle.
I will mention end tackle in my next article on CARP TACKLE.
