Carp fishing in the Midlands is getting very popular as with the rest of the country. You would like to think there are no untouched Carp Lakes around the West Midlands.
When my mate Anthony Bahnik told me there was an untouched Carp water within 15miles from my home when I say untouched I mean it only gets a few pleasure anglers every now and then.
After driving 20 minutes we finely arrived only to be greeted by the farmer, he was a cheerful chappy and said we could go down and fish.
I had no rods with me but Ant had one, so off we went down to the pool and what a nice place with reed lined margins, Lilly pads, over handing trees giving plenty of cover and an island in the centre the size of the pool is about 1.5 acres and was dug out 30years ago and stocked with a good head of Carp 4 of them over 30lbs which only 2 of them are alive now one was caught accidentally at a weight of 31.06 lbs and no one knows how big the other one is.
We arrived at the first set of lilies and the Carp was knocking hell out of them. So Ant dropped his dog biscuit bait on the edge of the pads with a few freebies resulting in a 10lb Common Carp which had never mean caught before so it was my turn.
So it was off to the next set of lilies to hunt for more Carp it had clouded over so there was no Carp coming up for the floaters, well we only had floaters. So I went in my lunch bag and there was bacon on my sandwich so on went the bacon so out on the pads it went
I put some mucilin on the line to make it float as to see some sort of bite indication, it wasn’t long before the pads near the bacon were moving all of a sudden the line twitched twice and pulled up the rod tip I was into which felt like a heavy fish I could not hold the bugger and it lunged for the pads and broke me on 12lb line so I’ve stepped up to 15lb now.
Ant gave me another go so I moved to some more pads and was in again on the bacon I had this fish on for about 10mins and luck would have it the hook pulled we actually seen this fish it was a Common Carp of a round 25lbs GUTTED.
It was ants turn on the chum mixer as the Carp had come up in the water he had a take resulting in a 13.4lb mirror this fish hadn’t even seen a handing pet, scale perfect and curtain in its mouth well intact top angler.
