The Zig Rig

This rig was around 25 years ago as I used it with bread crust suspending the bread from a 1 half oz arsley bomb up though the surface layers and caught a few carp doing this method.
I really used this rig with an advantage a couple of years ago .I was fishing local water a couple of years ago.
The wind was behind me and the carp were on the top so I set up the usual floater rig and took a few carp to 17lb but the wind picked up and took the floater to far out so I went on to the bottom baits.

As I was looking through my binoculars I could see carp feeding on my floaters at about 100yds close to an island so out went the marker to get the depth and off came the 8inch hook link and on went 4 foot of 10lb double strength by Drennan as it has a very low diameter topped with a yellow popup as I could see this through my binoculars.

It worked perfect catapulting PVA bags of floaters with a stone for extra weight the carp were really competing against each other I was in for a take all of a sudden the water erupted and the alarm broke the silence, and I was into a fish a mirror of 15lbs it was amazing watching a little yellow Boilie at 100 yards range through binoculars that’s carp fishing at its best.
Using a Zig Rig.

Recently fishing a local day ticket water, well we arrived at the lake it had been a very cold night as it was supposed to be spring even the daffodils needed thermals
The lake itself is around 15 acres in fact its a reservoir the one I used to pike fish many years ago.
Since the British waterways have turned it into a match carp water I have watched this place over the years since the carp have been stocked by looking up the match results as I do with the Barbell well after 5 yrs these fish have competed with each other and the fittest have reached mid twenties. We finally decided to fish with the northerly wind behind us within an hour of casting out I had my first fish a stumpy mirror of 14lb and for the next few hours I caught 6 fish to 16lb.
The weather turned out really good as I say good I mean good for every body but carp anglers,
As the fishing switched off (carp needed a bit of warmth?)
I sat there watching the sun warmed surface for a good half hour, all of a sudden there were bow waves appearing about 100yrds out,
This called for the Zig Rig so out come the Dreman fly line double strength leader 10lbs
I attached around 6ft of leader as the water is around 8ft my a normal Korda helicopter set up placed it on my un-hooking mat to save snagging and out it went 100yrds plus sorry forgot 2 say bait which was a dynamite pineapple pop up cut down a bit with a size 8 Korda wide gap these hooks are a mat grey as not to give glare from sun
It had been in the water 5mins and it rattled off while no out buzzers on the lake was going of WICKED!
I took another 6 fish on this method in last 2hrs while no one else was catching so give it a try when conditions as right that’s watercraft when this lake really fishes on a good south westerly on bottom baits in fact my mate egg (and Haden) took 38 fish in 10 hours and that was in march. There will be more about this fishing in the near future I might even tell you where it is only when I've filled my boots in HA HA!!
