Carp Fishing at Night

My first experience of Night Fishing for Carp was when I was around 12 years old.
It was the first season I started fishing carp, I had made friends with a few lads down at my local Somers fishery, and I had fished with them a few times but day fishing only.

I would arrive back early morning and they either had a few tench or carp, It was too hot in the day, too hot to even get a bite, the odd carp would come out to floating crust, The only chance of a bite was tight up to the snag’s and that would damage the carp and bust off your end tackle.
Most fish were coming out at night so I had a word with my old man; He said it would keep me out of trouble if I went night fishing.

I was straight on the phone to my mate Jim Leeming and he was fishing that night.
I got to work getting all my stuff together; my old man was into camping at the time so I had the use of some good camping equipment this mixed up with my fishing tackle was good, I got hold of a canvas bivvy old fashioned igloo through a friend of mine I think it was about a tenner.

I finally arrived at the lake, it was a hot sunny day, I could see my mate Jim Leeming on the dirt swim at the other end of the lake, and it took me ages to get my gear down to him.
Once I was set up I felt wicked especially after a couple of crafty beers that Jim had bought with him.
We sat there drinking beer watching the sun go down and into darkness, I still appreciate that moment to this day, it was like another world, owls hooting, fish crashing, carp sucking in the margins, bats flying around you etc.

All of a sudden my old heron bite alarm broke the ambience it was my first fish at night it was a tench around 4lb I was chuffed, we stayed up till around midnight and then we turned into kip.
I was woken to the good old heron bite alarm at around 3 o'clock in the morning, this time it was a carp it felt much heavier than the normal tench.

I tried to wake Jim; with no luck, I had to learn sometime and learn I did, all I remembered is drop your other rod or rods so the tips are on the lake bed and tire the fish out and get the fish's head to the spreader bloke, I did all the this right and ended up with a 10lb mirror, I just sat there watching the sun come up with the mist being blown across the lake fish bubbling and crashing on the glass like surface the ambience of night fishing is wicked and I will never look at it any other way.

I will be telling you beginners out there some real good tips for night fishing with some photos.
Don't be afraid of the dark and get out there.
