BOILIES

Pop-Ups are a type of Boily which can be used to catch Carp and other Fish.

There are a few reasons for using pop ups. I mainly use pop ups over silty areas, as the pop up will sit on top of the silt where as the bottom bait can sink into the silt totally covering the bottom bait with a layer of silt taking the visual effect of the bait away and also hindering flavour leakage.

If fishing under trees dead Lilly beds anywhere were there is rotting debri were your bait can be marked always opt for a pop up.

A good rig to use in a silty situation is the chod rig this is a variation of the helicopter rig only with a 2inch hook link.

This rig is held around one to two foot up the lead core by rubber beads and heat shrink this rig is only good with pop ups in a silty situation.

Before casting out your pop up presentation it is wise to use a piece of rig foam which can be wetted and wrapped round your hook giving your hook point the protection it needs and also allows your pop up rig to fall slowly onto the silt avoiding leaves and twigs and other debris once the foam has left the hook.
